9 Stunning Pittsburgh Venues for Memorable Getting-Ready Photos

Finding the perfect ceremony and reception venue for your wedding day is paramount, as is finding a getting-ready location. If your venue doesn’t have a bridal suite or you aren’t getting ready at home, you’ll want a photogenic place for wedding prep where your crew can relax and get glammed up. Kay and Drew’s wedding (held at Pittsburgh’s Energy Innovation Center) inspired this topic because their wedding prep location was fire! They got ready with their family and wedding party at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, and I can’t think of a better venue for a bridal party photoshoot.

I fell in love with the eclectic mix of vintage and modern décor, vibrant colors, luxe accommodations, and that iconic bathtub perfect for sipping champagne! Some hotels give off that generic hotel vibe, but this one had so many photogenic features that took their getting-ready photos to the next level. If you’re tying the knot in downtown Pittsburgh and need a venue for wedding day prep and lodging, I highly recommend Kimpton Hotel Monaco!

Maybe you’re getting married in another city or prefer a different aesthetic. If your venue doesn’t have a wedding party suite, there are plenty of fabulous getting-ready locations around Pittsburgh. Discover swanky hotels and charming bed and breakfasts to unique vacation rentals. If you want gorgeous photos, here are a few things to look for in your wedding prep venue:

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Wedding Day Preparation Location

When selecting a wedding day preparation location, there are several factors to consider:

Coordinate the Venue & Wedding Party Size

You’ll want to ensure that your getting-ready location comfortably accommodates your bridal party and any additional vendors or services you may require. Don’t forget to account for your supplies and luggage if applicable. You’ll want extra space to store items out of the way during photos to reduce clutter.

Decide on the Ambiance & Style You Want to Capture

Are you going for a flirty and glamorous feel like Kay, an elegant and timeless look with skyline views, or a more rustic and intimate atmosphere? The venue you choose should align with the overall theme and aesthetic of your wedding.

Find the Natural Light

Ideally, you’ll want to select a venue or suite with ample natural light for the best photo experience. Flash photography (which you can see in Kay’s champ-popping bathtub photos) is fun for a bold, cinematic look. However, you may also want some clean, timeless bridal portraits. Natural light is ideal for those shots.

Review the Amenities & Services Offered

Some venues may provide on-site hair and makeup services, while others may offer catering, brunch, and mimosa options or access to a spa. Consider what services are important to you and your bridal party, and choose a venue to meet those needs.

Convenient Guest Access & Wedding Venue Commute

Is your getting-ready venue easily accessible for you and your guests? Is there ample parking available? How will you and your party get to your ceremony venue, and does the commute fit into your timeline? These logistical considerations can make a big difference in your wedding day preparations’ overall convenience and experience.
