This may be one of the most challenging weddings I’ve ever photographed but also the most rewarding! Ashley and Tommy were going for Old Hollywood glamour vibes, and they killed it. I loved everything about their star-studded day. Their theme was romantic and captivating. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, just waiting for the lights to come on and the red carpet to roll out for this special couple. To take it up a notch, they had their ceremony on stage at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, an elaborate theater with gorgeous details. Ashley and Tommy were dressed to the nines. She paired her long lace gown with sheer opera gloves and a short veil, and he matched her look in a white, black-lapel tux. It was so much fun, and the audience—their guests—loved the production with this glitzy Hollywood wedding theme.
The only thing about the theater is—there are no windows! Photographing a space without natural light can be tricky. But, with a little low-light magic and flash photography, we made it work. The flash photography edits pair with their style and theme quite well. You get that Hollywood glow with a touch of drama. These two are not ones to shy away from the camera, so every photo—even their portraits—feels very cinematic. I am in love with the results and how the images authentically showcase their Old Hollywood-themed wedding story.
We did manage to get outside for a bit, and thankfully the sky was somewhat overcast, creating a beautiful lightbox for their couple’s portraits. Plus, the cloudy skies allowed their indoor and outdoor photos to blend more seamlessly. (We didn’t want their pictures to give off that “just stepped out of a dark theater into the blinding sun” feel.)
Once outside, they had another surprise in store! A gleaming burgundy 1920 Locomobile sat waiting for them. I love a great prop, especially one that ties so beautifully into their wedding theme. We did a mini photoshoot within their wedding day, giving them time to savor and enjoy their private moment together. Meanwhile, I enjoyed creating art that would preserve these sweet wedding day memories.
After their portraits and vows, it was time to kick off the celebration with cocktails and dancing in the atrium. We may be in Ohio, but the DeYor event team and Green’s Floral shop transformed the impressive theater into the Beverly Hills Hotel, complete with palm frond centerpieces and bold red florals. After bites of their nostalgic Maraschino cherry-topped vanilla cake (and cute cupcakes to match), she changed into a white cocktail dress for an evening of dancing.
A beautiful couple, Gatsby vibes, and a phenomenal venue and vendor team made this such a memorable wedding day, and it was an honor to be a part of it. Cheers to Ashley and Tommy!
