I had such a marvelous time photographing Katy and Mark’s wedding in Pittsburgh! They chose the Energy Innovation Center for their wedding venue due to its unique industrial atmosphere and stunning views of the Pittsburgh skyline.
The building was originally home to the Connelley Trade School in 1930. The school was very successful, with up to 1,800 students in attendance. However, once World War II began, enrollment numbers dropped as war efforts increased. Then, after the war, people began returning to trade school, and numbers increased again. Over the years, the school had its ups and downs until it eventually closed in 2004. Today, the building is a “LEED Platinum Certified beacon for clean, efficient and sustainable energy solutions and technologies” (Energy Innovation Center). Given its rich history and genuine industrial Pittsburgh aesthetic, the EIC has become a sought-after Pittsburgh wedding venue.
This one-of-a-kind wedding venue mixes the old and the new with its trade-school history and fresh modern updates. The panoramic Pittsburgh skyline views make this venue so spectacular. You and your guests can experience the skyline transform from crisp sunlight to a watercolor sunset and, later, the twinkling evening silhouettes of the buildings. Whether you are interested in a small, intimate wedding, or a large gathering, the Energy Innovation Center has the perfect space(s) for you. You can rent a single space, or you can rent multiple rooms for your event.
Looking for an idyllic spot for your wedding photos? The Green Roof is a secluded space showcasing the Pittsburgh skyline. This venue is perfect for first looks, couples’ portraits, small group photos, or a spectacular sunset cocktail hour.
This intimate, modern space showcases industrial-framed floor-to-ceiling windows, with tons of natural light and stunning views of downtown’s historic district. The venue can host up to 75 guests for cocktail hour or up to 40 seated guests.
This room is an ideal flexible space for your large reception. It can hold up to 400 guests for cocktails or 250 seated guests.
This venue space is a favorite for weddings because it offers over 2,000 feet of floor space and large windows that allow plenty of natural light and expansive views of the Pittsburgh skyline. This space is recommended for wedding ceremonies and receptions. It can accommodate up to 200 guests for your ceremony and 150 seated guests for your reception.

The sweet newlyweds kept their looks simple and elegant on their wedding day. Mark looked handsome in his black tux, but Katy stole the show in her gorgeous vintage lace gown, which went with the ambiance and details in this historic venue.
The couple decided to do a first look and share a quiet moment before the ceremony. We also carved out some time to do a couples’ photoshoot. I was so pleased that the Energy Innovation Center allowed us to take photos all over the grounds, and we also took advantage of the spots along the street, inside the venue, and on the rooftop. This venue offers tons of options for a wide range of compositions. I love giving my clients a variety of photos to choose from so that their wedding album is unpredictable and full of life!
Katy and Mark used The Covestro Brightspace for their light-filled wedding ceremony and reception, and they had more than enough room for dinner and dancing, yet it still felt intimate! By the end of the night, there wasn’t a single person who hadn’t made a dancefloor appearance, and I had a blast capturing every candid moment! Congratulations to the happy couple. I wish you both a life of endless love and laughter!
