If you’ve ever dreamed of a western wedding with sweeping hilltop views, Bre and Tim’s day at The Roost Event Center in Central Pennsylvania will steal your heart.
This was my first time photographing a wedding at The Roost, and it absolutely delivered. Picture panoramic valley views, golden leaves for miles, and a celebration filled with laughter from start to finish. Just on the cusp of winter, central Pennsylvania still showed off with the most incredible fall color—tree-studded hills glowing in every shade imaginable.
But what really made the day special was how genuinely fun it felt.

Bre and Tim exchanged vows overlooking the valley below, surrounded by friends, family, and the kind of view that makes guests audibly gasp. The ceremony space at The Roost is what draws so many couples in—and for good reason. It feels expansive without sacrificing elegance. If I had to describe it in two words: rustic romance. Which was exactly what Bre and Tim were going for.
And then came the ring bearer.
Instead of walking down the aisle, the ring bearer rode in on a tiny John Deere tractor. Their guests loved it, and so did I! It was the perfect touch for their western theme and brought that unique, personal energy that makes a wedding unforgettable.
Bre’s custom bridal cowgirl hat—complete with hatband accessories—was another standout detail. It was creative, stylish, and completely her. (As a wedding photographer, I can’t fail to mention how confident and photogenic she looked in her hat!) Western wedding inspiration can sometimes lean predictable, but this felt fresh and intentional. Between the boots, the hats, and the open-air ceremony backdrop, it was Western done right—elevated but still fun.

Even with all the laughter and fun, Bre and Tim made time for a quiet moment to share private vows. No crowd, no microphones—just the two of them.
I’ll be honest—those are the moments that get me. The energy shifted from playful to deeply heartfelt in seconds. There were tissues involved (on my end, too). It was such a beautiful reminder that beneath the party, beneath the details, this day is about two people choosing each other.
And then? Right back to striking poses and cracking jokes.
These two are constantly laughing. They’re not afraid to be a little dramatic or silly for the camera. They loop their friends in, pull their wedding party close, and make every portrait feel like an experience instead of an obligation. Photographing them felt less like “work” and more like being invited into the fun.

The Roost is great for small weddings, but Bre and Tim’s big guest list really showed how well the venue handles large celebrations.
The Roost can seat up to 325 guests, which is rare for a wedding venue in central Pennsylvania. It never feels crowded, thanks to the smart layout. There’s a large dance floor, an upstairs mezzanine with extra seating, and a bridge so guests can enjoy “the best view” from different spots.
And because Pennsylvania weather likes to keep us on our toes, The Roost has a smart backup plan. If Mother Nature decides not to cooperate, couples can hold their ceremony inside in front of a stunning garage door window wall—so you still get those views, rain or shine.
The practical details matter, too. There are two indoor bars with certified bartenders, a soft drink bar, clear plastic cups, bar napkins, ice, temperature-controlled coolers for drinks, plenty of tables and seating, dimmable lighting, and a large, well-lit parking lot for all your guests. These basics help the wedding day go smoothly.
While it’s not an all-inclusive venue, The Roost covers so many essentials that couples have the freedom to get creative with the fun extras.

Bre and Tim’s wedding party understood the assignment.
From dramatic entrances to spontaneous dance-offs, the wedding party kept the energy high all day. The upstairs mezzanine was perfect for people-watching, and the big dance floor was always full. There was a constant feeling of joy, as if everyone knew they were part of something special. Because they were.
That playful spirit showed up in the portraits, too. We mixed classic, frame-worthy shots with lots of movement and personality—twirls, hat tips, and over-the-shoulder smiles. These are the kinds of photos that feel alive when you look back at them.

For entertainment, Bre and Tim went all in with Cleveland Keys Dueling Pianos—and it was a hit. If you’ve never experienced dueling pianos at a wedding, add it to your inspiration board immediately. It’s interactive, high-energy, and keeps guests of all ages engaged.
And then there was the cookie table.
As a Pittsburgh wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot of cookie tables, but this one was truly top tier. There were layers of homemade treats, classic family recipes, and beautifully arranged trays. It was both nostalgic and impressive. Guests went back for seconds (and thirds), and I don’t blame them!
Between the cake from Tasty Bakery and the cookie spread, no one left hungry. This wedding was a treat in the literal sense.

When I look back, what stands out most is all the laughter.
Bre and Tim didn’t treat their wedding like a show. They made it a true celebration of their love, bringing their friends and family close. There was room for both tears and laughter. They embraced their western style while keeping the setting elegant.
And somehow, even with a full guest list, dueling pianos, tractors, cowboy hats, and one epic cookie table, the day flew by.
If you’re planning a western-inspired wedding with hilltop views and need a venue that can handle a big crowd without losing its charm, The Roost Event Center is definitely worth a visit.
And don’t forget to bring tissues for your private vows. You’ll thank me later.

I know a girl. 😉
