A High-Fashion Editorial Engagement Session with Katie & Alex

Picture this: an engagement session that looks like it came straight out of a Harper’s Bazaar Wedding Edition. Your engagement session is your chance to have some fun and play up your personality and connection. Katie and Alex decided to do it up with an elegant, modernist twist on traditional engagement photos. Their high-fashion editorial photo shoot was nothing short of spectacular!

Setting the Stage for an Editorial Photo Shoot

Our adventure began at a swanky cocktail bar that could easily rival any downtown hotspot. The ambiance was perfect—dim lighting, plush seating, and a bar that served the most divine espresso martinis. Katie and Alex wasted no time getting into the spirit of things. They ordered their martinis to pair with their white-frosted cake and struck some fun, flirty, and sultry poses. It was clear from the get-go that these two have a zest for life and an undeniable chemistry.

A Classic Downtown Touch on the Strip

As much as I could have hung out and taken portraits at the bar all day, Katie and Alex had more in store. After a quick wardrobe change, we made our way outside, which opened up to the Strip District. Katie embodied modern bridal chic in her stunning white mini dress, paired with sky-high platform Louboutins for a dramatic flair. Alex, not one to be outdone, looked dashing in his tailored suit, effortlessly pulling off the sans-tie look. After a few rounds of photos in the cocktail bar, it was time for their wardrobe change and a scenic adventure on the strip.

A Rooftop Scene to Remember

Downtown served as a dynamic backdrop as they waltzed through crosswalks and twirled under the vintage theater bulb lights at the 20th Street Passageway. The romance in the air was palpable, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was capturing scenes from a classic love story. The setting provided a cinematic backdrop, turning each photograph into art. Then, for the grand finale, we headed to the rooftop for some sun-drenched portraits overlooking the city

All in all, it was a fabulous day for a high-fashion, editorial-style engagement session. If you’re loving the editorial look and want your engagement photos to have that magazine-ready flair, here are a few tips to achieve it:

Tips for Achieving Editorial Engagement Photos

Choose a Unique Upscale  Location

Find a spot that’s both stylish and meaningful. It could be a chic cocktail bar, an art gallery, a loft, or a secluded rooftop.

Wardrobe is Key

Opt for outfits that make a statement. Think high-fashion, elegant, and modern. Don’t be afraid to mix it up with a wardrobe change and add accessories. Katie wanted to show off her killer heels, and this was the perfect chance to do it!

Play with Poses

You can rest assured I will guide you and help you feel like a model the entire time, but don’t be shy! Feel free to take the reins at any point and strike your own fun, creative poses. Think of how models pose in fashion magazines—confident, relaxed, and sometimes a bit playful. I’ll let you know what works and what needs some tweaking, but an extra dash of creativity is always welcome in sessions with me.

Use Props

Drinks, food, flowers, or even furniture can add an extra layer of sophistication and fun to your photos. We used the leather couches and chairs, bar, and decór in the first half of their session. I especially love that they ordered a cute engagement cake to creatively display their upcoming wedding date. (And who doesn’t love the espresso martini and rich cake combo?!) Not only was this “prop” cute, but it also gave them something fun to do during the session for more photo ops.

The black-and-white striped awning, throwback theater lights, and slate-gray walls added intrigue to their downtown pictures. Katie also brought a tulle bow for some of their portraits together for a chic bridal touch.

These photos are perfect for their wedding website, save the dates, wedding décor, and wall displays. Let me know how you plan on using your images ahead of time so we can make sure to get all the compositions you need for a variety of uses!

Lighting Matters

Natural light, especially in the morning or during the golden hour, can elevate your photos to the next level. Don’t forget to explore lighting options like candles, lounge lighting, and string lights for an intimate feel.

Express Your Connection

Katie and Alex’s editorial photo shoot was a fabulous blend of high fashion and heartfelt moments. If you’re inspired to add a touch of editorial glam to your engagement photos, these tips are a great starting point. And who knows? Your session might just be the next one to look like it belongs in the pages of a high-end wedding magazine!

Here’s to love, laughter, and a lifetime of stylish moments.

Until next time,
