Dreaming of an outdoor wedding but nervous about the weather? Wedding planning has its challenges, and some couples don’t want to add bad-weather plans into the mix. You don’t have to give up your al fresco vision just yet! Greenhouse wedding venues are becoming more popular, and thankfully, Pittsburgh has one of the nation’s most stunning glasshouse wedding venues! As you might suspect, the Wintergarden is tucked right inside dazzling PPG Place, deemed the “Crown Jewel” of Pittsburgh (PPG Place).
As far as greenhouse wedding venues go, this elegant venue features a glass atrium with a 30-foot ceiling and is ideal for creating a romantic atmosphere. Glass house venues provide a more modern take on the traditional greenhouse (which can feel a bit stuffy.) Instead, this light and airy space feels open and spacious. Year-round greenery and florals elevate the space without feeling like a jungle. You can dress it up or keep it simple according to your wedding aesthetic. The glass house venue is incredibly versatile, but it has just enough built-in décor and intrigue to keep it from feeling like a blank slate where you have to start from scratch.
Every event is customized to fit your needs, and their experienced staff provides exceptional service. Plus, the venue is conveniently located in downtown Pittsburgh next to PPG Place’s water feature and skating rink, seasonal attractions. PPG Place has an array of in-house catering and bar packages. Work with their excellent even and culinary teams to select your own chef-inspired menu and serving style—buffet, culinary stations, plated dinners, and more. No matter what kind of wedding you are planning, Wintergarden at PPG Place has something for everyone.
Amazingly, almost every part of your wedding day—aside from getting ready—can happen under one roof! The enchanting glass house has more than enough space for a ceremony setup in front of towering walls of windows, a large dancefloor, banquet-style seating, a full bar, and more. Without multiple commutes, you can make the most of your wedding day by spending that time with each other, friends and family and taking more photos that tell the story of the best day of your lives!
Alex and Andrew chose to get ready in separate rooms of a family home, which I absolutely loved. They could relax and feel more comfortable in a place they know and love. Plus, the spacious yard and budding trees gave us a beautiful backdrop for their first look and a few portraits before heading downtown for their wedding day.
Alternatively, several fantastic hotels and accommodations are within walking distance of PPG Place, including The Industrialist Hotel. The Industrialist is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, so it’s more artistically curated than other traditional hotels. The hotel also has a few bar and dining options, such as The Rebel Room.
We don’t have to stray far from the Wintergarden for a wide variety of portrait backdrops. Depending on the season, we may catch the PPG water feature and green areas. In the winter, PPG Place is decked in festive holiday cheer around the skating rink. We can also use nearby buildings with ornate architecture and, of course, a few crosswalk and city street portraits as well.
Depending on what kind of portraits you want, we can plan to visit a few downtown locations that best showcase your style and aesthetic for photos you love! (Don’t forget to consider how you want to display them later—albums, wall art, stationary, frames, etc. You might also think about your home and what style will work best with your interior design.)
Alex and Andrew’s dreamy wedding day was nothing short of amazing. If you’re searching for the best greenhouse wedding venues, The Wintergarden won’t disappoint! These two are so very kind, down-to-earth, funny, and head-over-heels for each other. Their chemistry and vibrant personalities shone through in every photo, and documenting their special day was truly an honor. Cheers to the happy couple!
